NEWHAVEN FORT: THE ROC HISTORIC COLLECTION
Newhaven Fort is an award-winning attraction and a fine example of an English fortification. The site recreates the sights, sounds - even the smells- of the period, all found in a range of exhibitions and audio-visual presentations. The scheduled ancient monument tells the story of life in a Victorian Fortress and the on-site military museum demonstrates Newhaven Fort’s role through two World Wars including the role of the Royal Observer Corps in both the Second World War and Cold War.
The museum is home to the Royal Observer Corps Historic Collection, which holds a considerable collection of ROC related equipment, artefacts and memorabilia covering the history of the ROC from its formation in 1925 until final stand-down in 1995.

THE ROC MUSEUM
The Royal Observer Corps Museum has a considerable collection of photographs, documents & personnel records covering the history of the ROC from its formation in 1925 until final stand-down in 1995.
The ROC Museum was started by Officers at the Winchester ROC Centre (14 Group) as a Collection for viewing by visitors. As the Collection grew it was moved into the disused wartime Operations Room, opening in June 1974. The Museum was developed with the aid of grants by Hampshire County Council (HCC) and opened to the public on 24 October 1987. The building closed in March 1992 with the partial stand-down of the ROC and the bulk of the Collection was moved out.
Through the generosity of Hampshire County Council the Collection is housed near Winchester in leased premises and is not available for public viewing. Hampshire County Museums & Archives Service provides professional advice on both Curatorial and Conservation matters to the Museum. The ROC Archive is lodged in Hampshire Record Office. The ROC film Archive is in the care of Wessex Film & Sound Archive Trust.
